We are FRC Team 2358 Bearbotics from Lake Zurich High School in Lake Zurich, IL. We have competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) with our robot, Smokey, since 2008.
Under guidance from professional and alumni mentors, FRC teams race to engineer an industrial-size robot in just 3 months, then compete against other teams from around the globe.
We give students experience with practical STEM skills like running CNC mills, drilling holes, learning C++ and soldering wires. They also learn about strategy, project management, and teamwork.
Designed for the 2026 REBUILT season, Smokey 19 is a trench bot featuring a turreted shooter, a gear-train-driven indexer and an innovative indexer subsystem that leverages a Geneva mechanism, "deviled egg tray" feeder and integrated kicker.Â
Our three-camera vision system and software approach allows for sophisticated autonomous routes and field navigation, including a driver control to automatically adjust alignment to the trench and bump within defined zones to aid in driving accuracy. Our turreted shooter is programmed to always point at the Hub so that it can be ready to score fuel at any time without requiring driver input for aiming.
We were proud to partner with 8880 Terra Cyborg and 3067 Robovikes as Captain of Alliance 6 at the 2026 Midwest Regional!
